Artist Statement

I am an artist first and a graphic designer second. I am a traditionally trained fine artist, working in all aspects of fine art including drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography. With the recent technology age I have begun applying my knowledge of color, form, shape, texture, line and space into creating digital art. Currently, I work with elements of graphic design, but I have a strong interest in digital illustrations, which I hope to explore more in the future.

I am inspired by everything around me: popular culture, nature, religion, politics, even from the neighbors next door; art can be found in anything. I find inspiration from artist from many movements, but I pull the most inspiration from artists of the Dada and Neo-dada art movements. I myself enjoy using ready-mades and making unconventional objects, just as many of the Dada artists often did. I am drawn to artists who challenge the viewer, and challenge society as a whole; creating controversy and pushing buttons along the way.

My hope for the future of my own work will be to keep doing what I’m interested in; to keep exploring my abilities as a graphic designer, and to keep developing my digital illustration skills. I hope to continue to pull inspiration from some of my favorite artists, and to start making a stir and ruffling some feathers with artwork of my own.

Biography

Born and raised in Woodbridge, Virginia, I feel that I am always struggling to find others whose artistic, moral, and societal ideas are in line with mine. I feel the big city calling; I am just a few semesters away from getting on the train.

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts from George Mason University with a concentration in graphic design. I received an Associate of Fine Arts from Northern Virginia Community College in August of 2008. I have recently obtained my first publication of my artwork on the cover of the GMU Literary magazine Volition’s spring 2009 edition. I have been on the Dean’s list the past 7 semesters, maintaining a 3.84 GPA, and have recently been inducted into the Tau Sigma National Honor Society.

Being a full time student and part time artist, I am left with little time to work on art of my own liking. I have tons of thoughts and ideas floating in my head, it is difficult at the moment to find time to bring them to life. With my hard work and determination to finish my degree, I will then be awarded with all the free time I need to make the art which satisfies my soul.
